It is so good to be back!  I had a great week back and am slowly getting back into routines and getting to know my students.  Please read this blog each month to keep up to date on what we are learning in the Grade 4/5 class. Language Arts We have started our Poetry unit.  As well as composing a variety of poems, the students will be reading and analyzing poems using the SMILE (Structure, Meaning, Imagery, Language and Effect) acronym.   We will continue on with Spelling and Guided Reading.  Please ensure that your child continues to read each night.  I strongly recommend at least 30 minutes each night.   Math Both classes have begun the Measurement unit.  The grade fours will be working on recording the date using the Metric format, telling time using an analog clock as well as using Metric units for measurement.  The grade fives will be using Metric units to explore perimeter, volume and capacity but will also focus on converting measurement units (ie. mm to cm, m to mm
